Since 2006 we take part in the scientific investigation of our nature and environment under the name of Gavia EcoResearch. We focus on the ecology of birds, and our research deals with breeding birds as well as with staging, wintering and migrating birds. We work on:

Basic research in order to obtain fundamental results of biology and ecology of birds;

Monitoring of birds and their habitats, especially regarding already existing conservation units such as national parks and SPAs;

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) concerning the effects of constructions on the birds living in the respective habitats.

Due to long-term experience, e. g. as staff members of the Institute for Avian Research "Vogelwarte Helgoland", the Vogelwarte Hiddensee and the Research and Technology Centre West Coast, we have knowledge of methods and skills, which enable us to work on various aspects within ornithology. Our research so far concentrated on:

• Bird migration and offshore wind farms
• Seabirds and offshore wind farms
• Breeding birds in flood plains
• Breeding birds in agricultural landscape
• Spatial and temporal distribution of Herring Gull and Lesser Black-backed Gull
• Breeding biology of Hen Harrier and Short-eared Owl
